ABOUT ME

Photo of psychologist Brittany Becker, who treats college students, graduate students, and adults struggling with letting go of perfectionism, high functioning depression, just right OCD, eating disorders, feeling like a burden and more.

HI! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience in supporting clients with complex clinical presentations, particularly young adults and their families. For years, I have worked to support clients and communities across NYC and Long Island, including as the Director of an intensive therapeutic center, a group facilitator in an OASAS-licensed outpatient facility, and the community education and prevention specialist for a non-profit focused on substance abuse issues. I am eager to bring all of my knowledge and the enthusiasm I have for the mental health field into my private practice!

I am also a mother, a partner, a friend, a daughter, and a mentor. I’m frequently people’s first call when they need a dose of positivity, some healthy perspective, and clear action steps to help them move forward from their problems, whether those problems are as simple as momentary frustrations or as complex as past trauma experiences. I believe in venturing beyond clinical textbooks, embracing my own experiences and collaborative brainstorming to craft personalized solutions.

I have special interests in grief work, parenting, life skills/“adulting,” career exploration, and mentoring young mental health professionals. I also specialize in providing psychoeducation to families about the complexities of their loved one’s mental health, including explaining options for treatment and teaching family members how they can best support their loved one through their behavioral changes.

Warmth and intuition are hallmarks of my approach, creating a space where clients feel deeply understood and heard. Creative expression and problem-solving are integral to my practice. People often confide in me, recognizing my stability, unwavering support, and my ability to act as a partner in their journey toward mental well-being. My non-judgmental presence and consistent demeanor establish a safe and predictable environment where they feel empowered to confront their challenges and embark on the path to healing.

I believe that everyone is unique and deserves the space to share their story and receive the support needed to learn and grow into the healthiest and most authentic version of themself.

I work collaboratively with people to strengthen their sense of self and help them feel equipped with the necessary coping skills to manage all life transitions.

  • Things I love about being a therapist...

  • When someone can clearly feel that they finally are being seen and heard in the way that they so longed for

  • When someone is able to realize that they are not broken

  • When someone can have reparative experiences just by the work they are doing within the session

  • When someone starts a new behavior and feels excited and proud to share their accomplishment

  • When someone shares that they started to love themselves and accept love from others

  • When a persons full personality can unapologetically come out

  • When crying and laughing can happen within minutes of each other and someone realizes that that is ok!

  • When you see people connect deeply with others and no longer feel alone
